He was previously Senior Policy Adviser to the UK Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, a role in which he co-founded the AI Security Institute and co-created the AI Safety Summit and the UK’s supercomputing programme.
Prior to his time in public service, he was an AI researcher at Mila in Montréal, and a software engineer at startups in San Francisco. He received a Master’s degree in AI from the University of Montreal and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo.
