Kasia Jakimowicz

Research Affiliate

Kasia Jakimowicz is a Research Affiliate of the Oxford Martin AI Governance Initiative and a Senior Research Fellow at Pivotal Research focused on sovereign AI capabilities. Her work addresses sovereign access to frontier AI systems, compute governance, and international coordination mechanisms for frontier models oversight.

Kasia is a AI governance, technology diplomacy, and digital policy strategist, with experience advising governments, multilateral organisations, and private sector leaders. Previously, Kasia served as Senior Policy Adviser on AI and Emerging Technologies at the UK Mission to the United Nations in NYC (FCDO), where she represented the UK in negotiations of critical UN resolutions on AI, science and innovation for SDGs, including the Global Digital Compact. She has held roles at the World Bank Group and the European Commission (DG CNECT and DG RTD) contributing to digital regulatory regimes and programmes in the EU and globally. At the UN International Telecommunication Union in Geneva, she led the ITU’s International Centre of Digital Innovation. She is an IAPP AI Governance Professional (AIGP) Training Advisory Board Member, a member of the Harvard Business Review Advisory Council, and was recognised by the United States for extraordinary ability in technology and innovation.

Kasia holds a Master in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School, advanced diplomas in computing and data systems analysis from the University of Oxford, graduate degrees from Aarhus University and the Warsaw School of Economics, and executive-level certificates from Stanford GSB, MIT and Caltech. Her academic affiliations include an Innovation Fellow at the Harvard Ash Center’s Data-Smart City Solutions, an Associate Researcher and Visiting Startup Mentor at MIT Media Lab, and a Visiting Professor on Geopolitics of AI and AI Governance at SGH Warsaw School of Economics.
