Chin Ze Shen is a Research Affiliate at the Oxford Martin AI Governance Initiative and a Research Analyst at the AI Standards Lab.

His work focuses on developing concrete threat models and risk pathways for advanced AI systems and evaluating the effectiveness of existing AI standards in mitigating these risks.

Ze Shen is a founding member of the AI Standards Lab, where he analyzes and translates AI governance and technical research into standards text in support of regulatory initiatives such as the EU AI Act.
He previously participated in Refine, a conceptual alignment research program hosted by Conjecture, where he explored the intersection between AI safety and technical engineering safety. Before transitioning to AI governance, he spent over a decade as a reservoir engineer in the oil and gas industry, working extensively on uncertainty analysis, forecasting, and risk management for safety-critical operations. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Petronas.
